Health design is an interdisciplinary approach that uses design principles and human-centred design to address healthcare issues holistically. It encompasses the practical design of healthcare solutions, as well as research into developing new concepts, products and services based on specific needs and new research findings.

In practice, health design focuses on developing products, technologies, facilities and services that offer greater efficiency, improved patient experiences and optimised healthcare outcomes. User-centred design is central to ensuring the acceptance and effectiveness of these solutions.

Health design research focuses on user needs and analyses the impact of interventions and technologies on patient experience and healthcare system optimisation. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are employed to gain insights and improve health design practice by translating these insights into evidence-based applications.
