New release: Design Struggles - Intersecting Histories, Pedagogies, And Perspectives
The publication offers a critical assessment of design's complicity in creating, sustaining and reinforcing social, political and environmental problems, both today and in the past. To further this disciplinary self-critique, design is illuminated through the intersections of gender, culture, ethnicity and class. In more than 20 contributions, an urgent and wide-ranging set of voices and views emerges, those seeking new approaches to design history and design education.
From the Department of Design, Paola de Martin, lecturer BA Design and Tania Messell research assistant in Visual Communication, are each represented with a contribution. The conference proceedings are published on the occasion of the «Beyond Change» conference (2018) of the Swiss Design Network. R&D Officer Prof. Dr. Sarah Owens, was involved in the conference and publication as Conference Co-Chair and part of the Scientific Committee.
«Design Struggles - Intersecting Histories, Pedagogies, And Perspectives» (Eds. Claudia Mareis and Nina Paim) was supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF and is available digitally via the golden open access route or can be ordered directly from the Publisher Valiz or in bookshops.
